I'm back for a bit...

Key Largo Minus the Annoying Song

11.17.03
before continuing, read this, okay?

so now it is saturday morning. for once we manage to haul our keisters out of bed before nine. we drive south to key largo.

if you've never driven south through the florida keys let me tell you a tiny bit about that. the view on either side of the road is obstructed by large shrubs. i think this is so the driver won't rubberneck and cause large traffic incidents. all the same, it is a shame to be missing the view.

in key largo we had planned to go on a snorkeling tour of the coral reef. doesn't that just sound great? also terribly romantic which isn't keeping with the boy's relationship agenda. i just pictured us swimming next to each other and holding hands...

turned out mother nature wasn't having any of that. she turned out one and two foot swells and low visibility. we were warned that this would make it difficult to snorkel, especially if we were 'not strong swimmers'. i took that to mean if we were 'not in shape'. which we are not. pretty much our idea of exercise is having sex... or perhaps walking two blocks to eat a huge fatty omelet. we were not prime candidates for the snorkeling tour, this being the case.

but we did rent the gear and go swimming by the beach instead. that was ultimately the right decision. we swam with huge fish and tried taking pictures with this [i hate to think how this will turn out, there is a difference between waterproof and meant for water pictures]. there wasn't a coral reef but there was remnants of a spanish ship sunk in the 1700's. a big anchor and cannons. that was enough for these two science channel nerds.

if it will make you feel better i can tell you that the water was freaking cold. really, we had goose bumps the whole time...

i also managed to spend the better part of the day in a swim suit without wishing to inflict harm on myself. we are talking milestones here, people! now you know why i don't want to forget!

there's more...
